Find Your Voice
Let’s start with the implication that when finding your voice, we are looking for something that is lost. Or unseen, hidden.
That also says that you’ve had it before. Seen it. Recognize it. Used it. Just sort of, misplaced it. Which can be both empowering and disempowering at the same time.
What may have happened that your voice is not being heard? How did it get misplaced or lost?
Life.
That’s the long and the short answer. Life happens to all of us. We go through things and our perception of those events shape how we proceed in life. Along the way, we may discover situations that strengthen us and then situations that drain us. This may affect how we see ourselves as well as how we decide we want to be perceived.
I believe we silence ourselves for many reasons. Protection of the self is the biggest reason. Sometimes we are in situations where our voice isn’t valued and so we decide not to share.
We all have value in this thing called life.
That means our voice matters. Our insight matters in our community, especially when we are working in our purpose. We are here to really support and assist one another in community. Our testimonies matter. Sharing with one another lets us know that we are not alone in this human experience.
Other times, we haven’t had the opportunity to develop our voice. And that’s okay. It’s already there but we haven’t been placed in a situation where we need to strengthen, develop, cultivate our voice.
Knowing our layers, understanding who we are makes a huge difference in how we present ourselves and how we use our voice. We see this daily in conversation. Strengthening your voice aids in self-advocacy and the ability to advocate from others like our families and communities.
Getting in touch with the self on a deeper level helps us to strengthen our voice.
Take your time with this process. It is nothing to conquer, instead see it as a lifestyle that helps you be the best version of you.
